The Opportunity

Our client, an established M&E engineering specialist based in Wigan, is looking for an Electrical Supervisor to run their electrical installation teams on live projects.

The work is weighted toward education, healthcare and wider public sector projects, including work for local authority and transport bodies, which brings a different set of challenges.

Working in occupied schools, live healthcare settings or other public buildings means installation often has to fit around term times, patient care or public access rather than a straightforward empty-building programme. Getting that right, safely and without disruption to the people using the building, is what makes this role more demanding than a typical supervisory position.

This is a permanent role in Wigan, £45,000 to £55,000 depending on experience, plus a car or car allowance and a full benefits package.

About the Business

Framework and repeat public sector work changes what site supervision is worth. The same estates teams and often the same buildings come back so how a job is run, how little disruption it caused and how it was left at the end of each day carries into the next order in a way it never does on a one-off commercial scheme. The supervisor is the person the client actually deals with while that judgement is being formed.

The range of scale matters day to day too. A fast-turnaround refit inside an occupied building and a package on a multi-million-pound project are very different tempos held to the same standards, which is why the role suits someone who can supervise without needing a fixed routine to work to.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supervising electrical installation teams across live projects, day to day

  • Ensuring work is delivered safely, to specification and to programme within occupied or operationally sensitive buildings

  • Planning installation activity around term times, patient care, public access or other occupied-building constraints

  • Coordinating labour and materials on site, escalating issues to the project or site manager as needed

  • Ensuring installations comply with BS 7671 and current regulations

  • Maintaining day-to-day health, safety and quality standards on site

  • Supporting testing, commissioning and snagging through to handover

  • Liaising with subcontractors, site staff and building occupants to keep disruption to a minimum

What We're Looking For

  • A strong electrical installation background, with supervisory experience on live construction sites

  • Experience working within occupied buildings, education, healthcare or other public sector environments is a strong advantage

  • Comfortable supervising a team day to day, including labour coordination and quality control

  • Up-to-date knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant standards

  • SSSTS or SMSTS, with CSCS and relevant electrical qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence

What it is

•Running electrical installation teams on live, occupied sites

•Sequencing work around a building that stays open while you work in it

•Ownership of safety, quality and BS 7671 compliance on the ground

•The face of the business to estates teams, caretakers and site staff

What it isn't

•An empty new-build site with the place to yourself

•Industrial and process work, which is what much M&E supervision means

•Supervising to a sequence someone else has already fixed

•A job where programme is the only constraint that matters

What's on Offer

£45,000 – £55,000

Car or allowance

In-house design
Behind the site team
  • Varied public sector work across education, healthcare and local authority, rather than the same site type repeating

  • In-house design, estimating and delivery capability behind you, so technical queries get resolved internally rather than sent out

  • Long-standing framework relationships, which means continuity of work rather than chasing the next contract
