M&E quantity surveying is a narrower field than general construction QS work and it pays accordingly. If you have building services experience, you are competing in a much smaller pool than you would be on the main contracting side, and that shows up in the offers.
What the work involves
The projects behind these roles
Industrial, food and drink and pharmaceutical work, healthcare and education frameworks, and commercial new build and fit‑out. Some roles sit on a single large contract, others cover a portfolio of smaller ones, and the two suit quite different people. It is worth being clear which you want.
Permanent M&E Quantity Surveyor roles we have handled recently have paid between £60,000 and £75,000, with senior positions at the top of that range and a car or allowance on top.
Building services experience is the thing that moves the number. A general construction QS moving across should expect to start lower and catch up quickly.

M&E jobs in Blackpool
Blackpool and the Fylde coast are a smaller M&E market, and we would rather say so than waste your time.
There is real building services work along this coast, driven by leisure and hospitality, town centre regeneration, healthcare and the energy and utilities sector further up the Fylde. But the contractor base is smaller than inland, and permanent M&E appointments here come up occasionally rather than continually.
If you are set on staying local, tell us and we will keep you in mind for when something does come up, because it does. If you would consider Preston or the wider North‑West, that widens things considerably and the M55 makes it more realistic than people assume.
