Mechanical Estimator jobs in the North‑West

Permanent Mechanical Estimator roles with M&E building services contractors across the North‑West.

ravensearch is a specialist M&E recruitment agency working only on permanent roles in mechanical and electrical building services. We are based in Wigan and the contractors we work with are spread across the region, from Liverpool and Warrington through Manchester and out to Leeds.

Whether you are estimating now and want a move, or you are a senior estimator weighing up the step into an estimating manager or pre‑construction role, we can tell you what is actually available and what it pays before you commit to anything.

What the work involves

Measurement and take‑off
Mechanical services measured from drawings and specifications, on anything from a single plant room to a full new build.
Tender submissions
Pricing, qualifications and the submission itself, usually to a deadline set by someone else.
Supply chain pricing
Enquiries out to suppliers and subcontractors, then the job of comparing what comes back on a like‑for‑like basis.
Handover to delivery
Talking the contracts and project managers through what was priced and why, once a job is won.

The projects behind these roles

Commercial fit‑out and new build, industrial and logistics, healthcare, education and public sector work. The contractors range from regional M&E businesses turning over a few million to national building services companies running a North‑West office, so the scale of what you would be pricing varies a lot between them. It is worth being specific with us about the project values you want to work at, because it is one of the things that most often decides whether a move works out.

What it pays

Permanent Mechanical Estimator roles we have handled recently have paid between £55,000 and £70,000, with estimating manager positions going to £85,000. Most come with a car or car allowance and the usual package on top.

Where you land in that range usually comes down to project values and how much of the tender you own rather than years served. Ask us and we will tell you what a specific contractor is paying.

Every role here is permanent. We do not handle freelance or contract work, so nothing on this page is a day rate.

M&E jobs in Wigan

Wigan is where we are based, and we know the contractors here better than anywhere else we cover.

Our office is in the town centre. That is not a marketing line: it means we have met most of the M&E and building services businesses in this area face to face, we know which ones people stay at, and we know which ones they leave. When you ask us what a contractor is actually like to work for, in Wigan we can tell you from having been there.

The local market runs from small works specialists through to contractors delivering education, healthcare, defence and public sector transport projects nationwide from a Wigan base. Estimating, design management and contracts management roles come up here regularly, and the M6 and M58 put Warrington, Liverpool and Manchester within a commute if nothing local fits.
