Overview

We are currently seeking an M&E Operations Director to lead and oversee operational delivery across a well-established building services contractor operating across Liverpool and the wider North-West.

This is a board-level leadership role, working closely with the Managing Director and other senior stakeholders to drive safe, efficient project delivery, optimise resources, strengthen customer satisfaction and achieve commercial targets, while supporting continued growth and sustainability objectives.

What You’ll Be Doing

Strategic leadership
  • Developing and implementing operational strategy aligned to business objectives and client outcomes

  • Driving innovation, growth, and continuous improvement alongside the senior leadership team

  • Building, mentoring and retaining high-performing teams, promoting a strong culture of safety and collaboration

Operational management
  • Directly managing Project Managers and departmental heads across maintenance, mechanical, electrical and construction operations

  • Overseeing full project lifecycle delivery from mobilisation and procurement through commissioning and handover

  • Setting and monitoring KPIs, workflow targets and performance standards to protect programme and quality

  • Ensuring compliance across health, safety and building regulations, including supply chain and subcontractor control

Commercial and financial oversight
  • Ensuring valuations and invoicing are submitted in line with contract and business requirements

  • Managing operational budgets and forecasts, driving cost efficiency and profitability

  • Reporting project P&L performance at monthly board meetings and supporting final accounts

Client and stakeholder engagement
  • Acting as senior escalation point and maintaining strong relationships with client-side stakeholders

  • Leading key meetings from pre-contract through progress, commissioning and post-contract stages

  • Representing the business at industry forums and strategic partnership meetings

Resource leadership
  • Maintaining a master programme to forecast resource requirements and lead weekly resource planning meetings

  • Supporting Project Managers and Engineers with leadership, structure and technical guidance

  • Working closely with H&S leadership to maintain compliance and safe delivery across all activities

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven senior operations leadership experience within building services and/or construction

  • Strong technical understanding across mechanical, electrical and construction disciplines

  • Experience managing decarbonisation and sustainability-focused projects

  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting and cost control

  • Track record of implementing new processes that improve operational and commercial performance

  • Relevant qualifications in engineering, construction management or business (preferred)
